Good Friday Walk

At the sixth hour (noon) darkness came over the whole land until the ninth hour (3:00p.m.)…With a loud cry, Jesus breathed his last. (Mark 15:33, 37)
You are invited to journey through this Good Friday Prayer Walk, wherever you live. We’re giving it to you a day early so you can carve out time tomorrow at 3:00p.m. and invite others to join you. It’s simple, just follow these three steps – REJOICE, RESET, REMEMBER.
We encourage to take a walk on Good Friday at 3:00p.m. You can pick a favorite trail, hit the bike path, or walk in your neighborhood. The idea is to intentionally rejoice with the Lord, reset your mind to align with Jesus’ on Good Friday, and remember God’s great love. You can walk and talk to God alone, with a partner, or in a small group. Please stop to read the prompts, ponder for a moment, then respond on the move.
As your feet move forward, move through these powerful experiences.
#1. REJOICE
Rejoice always; pray continuously and give thanks in all circumstances.
– 1Thessalonians 5:16-18
Take a moment to praise and thank God for the many good gifts in your life. Thank Him for the people you love, places you enjoy, and good things He’s given to you.
Read silently or aloud these passages and let them sink into your soul.
Every good and perfect gift comes from your Father in heaven. – James 1:17
Let everything that has breath praise the LORD. Praise the LORD– Psalm 150:6
Praise the LORD, O my soul. I will praise the LORD all my life, I will sing praise to my God as long as I live. – Psalm 146:1-2
Practice breathing in God’s presence. Pick one of the phrases below to meditate on over and over as you breathe and walk. Let the pace of your feet match your words.
Thank you God for loving me enough to send your son to die for me.
You are a good, gracious Father. You love me like no other.
Jesus YOU made a way on Good Friday, so all who believe can say,
“Today and forever, I am saved.”
#2 RESET – Realign your mind with Jesus’ divine thoughts.
When darkness fell over the land between noon and 3:00p.m. Jesus spoke these incredible words from the cross.
“My God, My God, why have you forsaken me.” (Matthew 27:46)
“Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”
(Luke 23:34)
Imagine Jesus’ sorrow as He hung separated from His Father. Thank God because He promises never to leave you or forsake you. Are you prone to walk away from God and do your “own thing” or take matters into your own hands? Confess your tendencies to distance yourself from God and quickly return to Him today.
Jesus forgave those who persecuted Him on the cross. Who do you need to forgive? Pray and ask God for the Holy Spirit’s power to move your heart and mind to forgive right now. Then ask for His strength to continue to forgive – 70x7 more times.
#3 REMEMBER & RUN – Remember what you received on Good Friday & Run to God.
At 3:00p.m. on Good Friday, these events took place – Jesus breathed His last, gave up His spirit, and become a holy sacrifice for the sins of the world. Immediately the curtain in the temple, separating common people from God’s presence, torn in two - top to bottom. Jesus made a way for you to run into God’s throne room and cry, “Abba Father”, Daddy! Tell your Father in heaven what’s heavy upon your heart today.
Pray for someone you love who doesn’t know Jesus as their savior. Pray God will make a way for them this year.
Walk and pray these prayers - personally finish each one.
Jesus, I can’t even imagine how much you suffered for me.
All I can say is…
Lord God, thank You for loving me today and every day.
All I can say is…
God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him. – John 3:16-17
What’s your response to God’s great love, poured out for you at 3:00p.m.? Share your thoughts and feelings with Him.
