A Love Like No Other

March 25, 2019

God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him. – John 3:16-17

As we approach Easter, it’s a perfect time to reflect on God’s great love. I’m often guilty of confusing God’s love with my imperfect love for others. Then I read passages like the ones above and I’m reminded; God’s love is like no other.

Let these truths about God’s love sink deep into your soul…

  • God loved you from the beginning. He knit you together in your mother’s womb. (Psalm 139:13)

  • God is love. (1John 4:16) It’s His nature to love you.

  • God proved His love for you by allowing Jesus to die for your sins. (John 19:30)

  • Nothing you say or do can separate you from God’s love. (Romans 8:38-39)

Accepting these truths about God’s love leads us to wrestle with an even greater question: What does unconditional love look like and sound like? Great question! Look at this example of God’s love lived out through His son, Jesus. He modeled a love like no other.

When a women caught in adultery was thrown at Jesus’ feet, the religious leaders wanted her stoned to death, as the law of Moses stated. (John 8:1-11) But Jesus had mercy for the woman filled with shame. He asked the men standing around to throw the first stone if they’d lived a life free from sin. One by one, oldest to youngest, they dropped their stones and walked away. Jesus, alone with the woman, refused to condemn her but loved her instead. He looked her in the face and sent her off “to leave her life of sin.”

When you’re guilty and your heart is full of shame, Jesus does the same for you. He loves, forgives, and redirects you towards a better path.

God has seen everything you’ve ever done. He’s seen you on your best and worst days. Still, He loves you. How different is our love? We often put up parameters or set boundaries to stay safe. This is not like God’s love. His love knows no limits or boundaries. It never fails, gives up, or runs out on you. It truly is a love like no other.

Think how hard it is to love these people, yet God loves them still.

  • The husband who cheats again.

  • A teen-ager who constantly lies.

  • The alcoholic who drives.

  • Our parent who never expresses approval.

  • A friend who takes and takes and never gives.

That’s the key to God’s love; STILL. He loves you still…after you mess up, fall flat on your face, or feel like a total disgrace. He loves you still. So, what do we do with His crazy, amazing love? It’s simple.

We simply say, “Thank you God for loving me, no matter what!”

Practice saying those words every day at 3:00 p.m. or every time you don’t feel lovable or even like yourself. It’ll slowly sink in and you’ll learn to lean on, trust in, and rely on, a love like no other.
